Puck About to Drop on 2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia
HALIFAX, N.S. - The puck drops on the 2019 Memorial Cup presented by Kia on Thursday.
The festivities officially start with the arrival of the Memorial Cup trophy tomorrow evening on the Halifax waterfront and continue Friday night with the first game of the 101st annual event, featuring the Halifax Mooseheads facing off against the Prince Albert Raiders.
The fun outside of the rink also gets going Friday, with the family-friendly Kubota Fan Zone and daily outdoor concerts at the Street Fest presented by Clayton Developments, a division of the Shaw Group starting at 4 p.m. in the Halifax Convention Centre and 6 p.m. on Argyle Street, respectively.
The 2019 Memorial Cup will showcase the best major junior hockey in the country over 10 exciting days, with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) champion to be decided Sunday, May 26.
"We are extremely proud to be in Halifax for the 2019 Memorial Cup presented by Kia, the 101st edition of our distinguished National Championship," said CHL President David Branch. "Our appreciation is extended to the Halifax Mooseheads, the 2019 Memorial Cup Host Committee, and all the volunteers. Their passion and dedication makes this event a success and a memorable experience for visiting fans and our competing teams."
Host Committee Chair Mat Harris said Haligonians should take great pride in how they have embraced the event.
"The Memorial Cup presented by Kia will be a real community-wide celebration of Canadian Junior Hockey. Our ticket sales, corporate support and volunteer participation have been outstanding," Harris said. "We're excited and ready to show off our city and give fans of all ages a tournament that will be one to remember."
The Memorial Cup trophy will arrive at Halifax Harbour aboard HMCS Glace Bay at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, accompanied by members of the 2013 Memorial Cup Champions the Halifax Mooseheads. Members of the public are invited to attend the official welcome at the Cunard Lot (1325 Lower Water Street) on the Halifax Waterfront. The event will feature the participating teams in the Memorial Cup along with event sponsors and several special guests.
Juno and multiple ECMA Award winning musician Matt Mays will open the Memorial Cup Street Fest presented by Clayton Developments, a division of the Shaw Group at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17. The 19+ event will feature an all-star line-up of nearly 20 Nova Scotian musical acts that will hit the outdoor stage on Arygle Street in the heart of Halifax's entertainment district and just steps away from the Memorial Cup host arena in the heart of downtown Halifax.
The Memorial Cup Kubota Fan Zone is a family friendly interactive and immersive experience featuring; a live broadcast of the Street Fest performances (during Kubota Fan Fest open hours), the Hockey Hall of Fame Legends exhibit, Top Shot Hockey interactive games, an indoor artificial ice rink, Market Gravity e-sports and video gaming experience, daily hot stove event featuring NHL alumni and daily performances and entertainers. It will be open daily 4-7 p.m. from Friday, May 17 until Sunday, May 26 at the Halifax Convention Centre, with the exception of Saturday May, 18 and Saturday May, 25, when it's open 12:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
