WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild's 2011-12 home-opening series, against the Alaska Avalanche Sept. 23-24, will serve as Public Safety Awareness Weekend. The goal of the weekend is to increase public safety awareness in the valley and raise money for police and fire departments within the Public Facility District (PFD), which includes Douglas and Chelan Counties and the seven cities of Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Cashmere, Entiat, Lake Chelan, Rock Island and Waterville.
"We are very proud to help increase public awareness in the valley for our police and fire departments," said Bill Stewart, president and managing partner of the Wenatchee Wild. "This is the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 and we want to recognize the heroes in our local police and fire departments who put themselves at risk on a daily basis for the public's safety."
Local firefighters and police officers will take part in the weekend festivities at the Town Toyota Center. Funds will be raised for local departments through Chuck-A-Puck and 50/50 raffle. Firefighters will also pass around boots for fan donations.
Wenatchee Police Chief Tom Robbins, Fire Chief Stan Smoke and Mayor Dennis Johnson will be on hand to take part in Public Safety Awareness Weekend. A video of the 9/11 10th anniversary ceremony being held at Centennial Park is also planned.
Tickets can be purchased at the Town Toyota Center box office, by calling the Wild ticket department at (509) 888-7825 or logging on to www.wenatcheewild.com.
