Abbotsford Heat News Release
Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames' prospect Brandon Prust has one goal in mind this upcoming fall--making the Flames' lineup.
After spending his first pro year with the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Prust is looking to make the jump and join the elite of Flames players in Calgary.
"Last year I was there (Calgary) for about a month. I played a couple exhibition games and then went down to Omaha, so this year I'm hoping to stay up," said Prust. "That's my main goal is to make the squad."
Prust, who is currently attending the Flames development camp in Calgary, knows exactly what type of player he needs to be if he wants to fulfill his dreams of playing in the NHL.
According to Prust, he plays with a lot of passion and hopes to bring that to the Flames organization.
"I think I'd bring a lot of grit, heart and energy to the lineup and some toughness as well," added Prust.
And he isn't afraid to drop his gloves either.
"I can fight when I need to and deliver big body checks," said Prust.
Prust, a 22-year-old native of London, Ontario, only missed one game during his rookie season in Omaha, recording 12 goals and 14 assists for a total of 26 points. He also led his team in penalty minutes with 294, making him a force not to be reckoned with.
Prust, who was drafted in the third round, 70th overall in the 2004 Entry Draft, spent three consecutive years with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, helping them win the Memorial Cup in 2005.
Flames development camp runs through this Saturday at the Don Hartman Arena in northeast Calgary.
