Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

GREENSBORO, NC – The Charleston Swamp Foxes second half rally fell seven points short as the Foxes fell to the Greensboro Prowlers 60-53 Friday night.

The Foxes fall to 3-5 on the 2003 season and fail to win back-to-back road games for the first time in team history. Charleston is also 2-6 all-time in games played on Friday nights.

"It was more than disappointing, it was almost embarrassing," said an emotional head coach Rik Richards following the second-consecutive seven-point loss. "You can't sugar coat it, we just didn't do the job individually on defense and that really cost us."

He added, "Despite the three interceptions I thought our offense played solid. We had a few missed opportunities, but in the end, they kept us within shouting distance in what became an offensive shoot-out."

Trailing 36-20 at the half, the Swamp Foxes rallied in the second, pulling to within 10 points on a pair of occasions and to within seven late in the game before being forced to watch as time ran with no timeouts.

The closest the Foxes could pull was the final margin of seven points. Down by 14 with under two minutes to play in the ball game, Prowler quarterback Caleb Slover fumbled the center exchange and Charleston's Hosea Laney pounced on the loose ball in the end zone, giving the Foxes a last glimmer of hope.

However, with no timeouts and a running clock, the onsides kick bounced into the waiting hands of Greenboro's Jason Gibson and the Prowlers were able to run out the clock to secure their first win in the past five games.

Swamp Foxes' quarterback John Turman completed 20 of 29 passes for 268 yards, a season and career high, surpassing the 1,000 yard mark for the season. He currently stands at 1,075 yards for the season. He had five TD passes but did toss three interceptions.

The Swamp Foxes' offensive attack was led by Michael Brown, who moved to within two receptions for 100 for his career. On the night, Brown hauled in four passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns to lead all receivers. He added a pair of tackles and a pass deflection on defense.

Offensive specialist Joe Judge led the team in receptions with five for 41 yards and his second-career touchdown.

Marlon Moye-Moore rushed twice for 31 yards and two scores, while also leading the team in tackles with five tackles in the losing effort.

The Swamp Foxes return home next weekend as they look to avenge an early season loss to the Norfolk Nighthawks next Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 pm at the North Charleston Coliseum. Festivities kickoff at 5:00 pm in the tailgate zone with live music from the group "Little Pieces."

Tickets are on sale now at the coliseum box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at (843) 554-6060.
