November 25, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Saginaw Spirit News Release
Owen Sound, Ontario - Picking up 48 saves and the shutout was Arizona Coyotes goaltending prospect Ivan Prosvetov in Sunday's 3-0 win for the Saginaw Spirit over OHL Western Conference foe Owen Sound Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Wrapping up the three-game Northern Ontario swing with five out of a possible six points, Saginaw jumps ahead of the Attack for fourth place in the West standings at 29 points.
Just two minutes into the opening frame saw 2018 Priority Selection sixth round defenseman Ian Lemieux make his OHL debut alongside Detroit Red Wings prospect Reilly Webb.
Lemieux, 16, agreed to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package on Saturday after playing 20 games with the Stouffville Spirit in OJHL (Jr. A), this season. Taken with the 105 overall pick, the Bradford, Ontario native recorded three goals and 12 assists in 28 games for the York Simcoe Express Minor Midget AAA this past year.
Right before Saginaw went on their first power play midway through the first, captain Damien Giroux would score the unassisted goal at 9:17 for the early 1-0 lead. Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of this year, Giroux has notched three goals during this road trip, and is tied for first alongside rookie Cole Perfetti among all Spirit players with 11 goals.
Prosvetov had a busy and productive 60 minutes, stopping 20 shots in the second period and 18 in the third, en route to his 11th win through 19 games played. The 2018 OHL Import Draft first rounder has a goals against average (GAA) of 3.49 and a .879 save percentage (SV%).
Prosvetov joins Owen Sound's Mack Guzda and Hunter Jones of the Peterborough Petes to lead all OHL goaltenders in shutouts with two. The last game in which the Moscow, Russia native didn't allow a single goal was October 20 in Game 2 of the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup against the Flint Firebirds.
Sunday marked the second consecutive game in which Saginaw and the opposing club were held scoreless in the second. 12 combined penalties were issued before the final buzzer with the Spirit's man-down unit killing five alone, which ranks sixth in the league at a 82.7 percent success rate.
2:26 into the third period, second-year forward Jake Goldowski collected his second goal since November 17 and fourth of the season for the 2-0 Spirit lead. Goldowski, 18, who earned third star honors last Sunday in the loss to the Windsor Spitfires, was also credited with an assist on Giroux's game-tying goal this past Friday.
Saginaw scored its third unanswered with 12:01 remaining as Perfetti, the 2018 Priority Selection fifth overall pick, recorded his fourth point and third goal since taking part in the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge early this month. Perfetti ranks fourth among all OHL rookies with 16 points on 11 goals and five assists.
17-year-old defenseman Mason Millman, who assisted on both third period goals, has put together seven assists through the last six games.
Applebee's Three Stars of the Game:
1. Ivan Prosvetov (SAG) - W, 48 SVs
2. Mason Millman (SAG) - 2A, +2
3. Mack Guzda (OS) - 24 SVs
