Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals wrap up the weekend at home this afternoon against the Sarnia Sting at the Tribute Communities Centre. The Gens head into the game with a 15-7-2-0 record after extending their winning streak to five straight games with another 2-point performance against the Bulldogs on Friday. Looking to add to their streak, the Gens will aim to take down the Sarnia Sting in front of the home crowd to cap off the weekend.
Today's matchup marks the second time Oshawa will square off with the Sting this season. The first game between the two clubs saw the Gens grab a big 7-4 win on the road. With lots of goals in the first meetup and coming off a 6-2 win against the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Gens offense has been on a roll and will look to keep up the production for another high-scoring game this afternoon.
After their recent winning streak, the Gens have climbed close to the top of the eastern conference. Their 32 points on the season puts them in third place in the conference and tied for second place in points behind only the Ottawa 67's. Meanwhile, the Sarnia Sting sit near the bottom of the western conference, holding a record of 10-11-2-2. With Sarnia coming off an 8-4 loss to Ottawa last night, the Gens will need to fight off a Sting team looking to bounce back from a tough loss.
A player to keep an eye on in tonight's matchup includes Gens forward Nando Eggenberger. The winger put on a show in the team's last tilt against the Sting, potting his first career hat trick to help secure the 7-4 victory. Eggenberger is also coming off a strong game against the Bulldogs on Friday in which he tallied a goal and an assist, increasing his point total to 24 points in 24 games. Look for the forward to be a key offensive contributor today and keep up his point-per-game scoring pace.
Gens forward Allan McShane is another player on a hot streak. Like Eggenberger, the winger is familiar with scoring against Sarnia this season after notching a goal of his own in their first meetup with the Gens. After burying a goal on Friday against Hamilton, McShane has lit the lamp 4 times in his last 5 games, adding 2 assists for 6 points over that stretch. With the forward on a tear as of late, look for McShane to continue his strong offensive play this afternoon.
Join us at the Tribute Communities Centre for a 2:05pm puck drop against the Sarnia Sting! Next weekend, the team will head on the road to Guelph to face off against the Storm on Friday before returning home for a back-to-back against the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday and the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday.
