Professional Hockey Returns To Hara After Thirteen Years
October 1, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Dayton Gems News Release
Professional hockey will return to it's rightful home in the Miami Valley as the Dayton Gems, proud members of the AA+ International Hockey League take to the ice for the first two games of their exhibition schedule next week. The Gems play in Fort Wayne on Wednesday, then Thursday, October 8, the first professional hockey game to be played at Hara Arena in thirteen years will feature the Dayton Gems vs. the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
"The Toledo Blades, Hornets and Goaldiggers were great rivals of the original Dayton Gems in the IHL,"Â director of hockey operations Guy Trottier said. "It's only fitting that the new Dayton Gems play a game against this historical rival."
Good tickets still remain for this game and for the Season Opener, October 16, and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Hara Arena box office. It's also not too late to get season tickets and save over $200! For information on groups, ticket packages, or season tickets, contact Jill Sanders in the Gems office at (937) 275-7777.
"It will be great to see professional hockey back in this building,"Â said James Dean, the Gems Executive Assistant. "The exhibition games will not only be an opportunity to see our new team, but also the improvements that Hara has made to the facility."
