Proctor, Dykema Selected Scholar-Athletes of March

MIDLAND, Mich. - Two outstanding student-athletes from the Great Lakes Bay Region have been selected as the March winners of the ESPN 100.9-FM Scholar-Athlete of the Month, presented by Hammer Restoration. Charles Proctor, a senior four sport athlete from Bay City Western, and Courtney Dykema, a junior runner from Birch Run HS were honored on March 28, on ESPN 100.9-FM's local sports talk show, Crunch Time.

Proctor, is a varsity athlete in football, wrestling, baseball and track. The Bay City Western senior was the Bay City Times Player of the Year for football in 2012 and was named All-State honorable mention by the Detroit Free Press in 2011 and 2012. As a wrestler, Charles was a state finalist in 2012 and 2013, along with qualifying for the state meet in track in 2012. Proctor was also a conference and district track champion in 2012. Additionally, Charles has maintained a 3.7 GPA and is an active member of the student council and the National Honor Society. Proctor is involved in his community as a volunteer as well, spending time at an adult foster care home, helping children at a youth flag football camp and volunteering for Corn Fest Trash cleanup.

Dykema is only a junior at Birch Run. She is a talented athlete in cross country and track. This fall, Dykema was named All-Saginaw County first team, All-Tri-Valley Conference second team and won seven medals this season. She is the captain of her cross country and track teams. Courtney also excels in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She is also a member of National Honor Society.

Each month during the prep sports season, one male and one female student-athlete is chosen for the ESPN 100.9-FM Scholar-Athlete of the Month Award, presented by Hammer Restoration. Winning candidates show excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. Nominations are currently being accepted for future months at ESPN1009.com. Student-athletes must be nominated by a coach, teacher or school administrator.

ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN, Pinconning) is a 24-hour all-sports station owned by the non-profit Michigan Baseball Foundation. The station is the flagship station of Great Lakes Loons baseball and carries a weekday lineup of Mike and Mike in the Morning, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, SVP & Russillo and Crunch Time with Jared Sandler.
