Long Beach, CA. Steve Chase, President of the ABA Long Beach Jam professional basketball team has named Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Nate "Tiny" Archibald as the team's head coach. Selected as one of the NBA's 50 greatest players, Archibald earned All-NBA first-team honors three times, was elected to the NBA All-Star Game six times and won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 1981. In 1973, Archibald became the only player ever to lead the league in both points (34.0ppg) and assists (11.4apg) in the same season.

"We are thrilled to have somebody of Tiny's stature coaching this team," said Chase. "Last season, we had five players called up to the NBA and still won the ABA championship. Tiny is the perfect instructor to steer this year's team above and beyond that success."

In the 1980-1981 season, Archibald directed a disciplined Celtics offense to a 62-20 record. Along the way, he picked up the All-Star Game MVP Award and also was named to the All-NBA Second Team at season's end. After his NBA career, Archibald returned to New York City to run basketball schools for underprivileged kids and to work as athletic director at the huge Harlem Armory homeless shelter. He was honored for his work with the city's youth by then New York City Mayor David Dinkins. Born and raised in the South Bronx's Patterson housing projects, Archibald has continued to be a presense in the troubled neighborhoods of New York helping to run community programs and homeless shelters and counseling kids on the street.
