The 1000 Islands Privateers rebounded from a pair of weekend losses to defeat the Rome Frenzy 5-2 in Federal Hockey League action before 411 fans at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center today. Alex Goupil helped the team stop a three-game skid with his fifth hat-trick of the season.
Goupil opened scoring in the first two minutes of action with assists going to Ryan Pearson and Clay McFadden. Tibor Varga tied the game for the Frenzy on the power play before the first period ended. Adam McAllister gave the Privateers the lead with the lone goal of the second period, as Alex Lacombe and James Kirkwood drew the helpers. Goupil extended the lead in the third on the power play, with Tyler Fernandez and Justin Levac drawing the assists. Jose Vasquez cut the lead to one but Pearson roofed one to make it 4-2 off feeds from McFadden and Nikita Poliakov. Goupil finished the hat trick as Kirkwood drew the lone assist. Richard Sillery got the win for the Privateers, saving 21 of 23 shots. Richard Scarsella made some impressive stops but took the loss for the Frenzy, rejecting 28 of 33 Privateer offerings.
The Privateers and Frenzy face off this Friday at 7 PM. The team will also host Danbury Sunday, January 23rd at 3 PM.
