Privateers Drop Home Regular Season Finale To Warriors 7-3

Akwesasne Warriors center Darick Ste. Marie scored twice and David Plouffe stopped 38 of 41 shots as the Warriors completed the home-and-home sweep over the 1000 Islands Privateers 7-3. The Warriors solidified their hold on first place while the Privateers closed out their regular season home slate with a loss.

Ste. Marie opened scoring in the first but Alex Goupil tied the game with assists going to Ryan Pearson and Michael Byrd. Justin Levac gave 1000 Islands the lead nine seconds later as Pearson and Nick Laporte got the helpers. Maths Johnason tied the game and Patrick Deraspe, returning from a five-game suspension, gave Akwesasne a lead on the power play. Kyle Lagace and Ste. Marie tallied in the second. Ste. Marie got his second shorthanded, picking the puck off goalie Richard Sillery's stick as he tried to set up a rush. Levac cut the lead to two on the power play from Goupil and Byrd, but Joshua Desmarais answered for Akwesasne and Martin Beaulne closed the scoresheet on the powerplay. Plouffe stopped 29 of 30 shots in the last two periods and the defense stifled the Privateers offense with tight play and good positioning.

The Privateers will host an exhibition game tomorrow against the Mountaineer hockey team. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Mountaineer team and the Fort Drum USO. 1000 Islands will end the regular season at Cape Cod Saturday night at 7 PM.

The 1000 Islands Privateers operate in Alexandria Bay and are a founding franchise in the Federal Hockey League.
