Pride Erase Three-Goal Deficit to Draw North Carolina in Fall Series Finale
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando Pride (0-2-2, 2 points) erased a three-goal first half deficit on Saturday evening to earn a 3-3 draw against the North Carolina Courage (1-1-2, 5 points) in its Fall Series finale at Exploria Stadium.
Short-term contract signee Ally Haran scored the goal to level the two sides in second half stoppage time, a free kick from Marta finding her head for the finish. Marisa Viggiano and Kristen Edmonds each scored for the Pride in the match, the second goal for Viggiano in the Fall Series and the first for Edmonds. Defender Carrie Lawrence earned her first NWSL goal contribution on the afternoon with the assist on Edmonds' finish in the 71st minute.
The match also served as the Club's second Breast Cancer Awareness Match, with the Pride dawning BCA warm-up tops prior to the match that will be raffled off at a later date.
Orlando Pride Head Coach Marc Skinner:
"I'm immensely proud. I think you summed it up right as a roller coaster, again. We left it to the second half again to be impactful in the way that we know we could. Again, those are good games to be on the end of if you are, obviously if you are the one coming back, but I'm so proud. I've said this in our presser yesterday, I'm so proud of the effort and the energy and commitment to every individual that has come in, that has given their efforts and time and commitment to what we're asking them to do. They deserve that, they absolutely deserve that for their second half performance alone. I didn't think we played particularly too bad, a couple of defending moments that we could do better on, but apart from that I thought they were just tremendous and I'm really, really proud of every single one of them."
19' Debinha (Lauren Milliet) - NC 1, ORL 0
The visitors took the lead with Lauren Milliet able to thread a ball in behind the Pride defense for Debinha, who took one touch before finishing it into the lower right corner of the net.
45+5' Lynn Williams (Debinha) - NC 2, ORL 0
North Carolina doubled its advantage in first half stoppage time, this time with Debinha finding Lynn Williams running in behind and taking her space before hitting her shot into the bottom right corner.
45+6' Debinha (Meredith Speck) - NC 3, ORL 0
The Courage added another just before halftime after a Pride turnover, with Meredith Speck finding Debinha on the run, who hit it first time into the bottom left corner to put the lead at three for the visitors.
54' Marisa Viggiano - NC 3, ORL 1
The Pride cut the deficit to two in a play that started with Marta going at her mark and finding Sydney Leroux in the box, who cut it back and got a shot off but was denied by Courage goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland. Marisa Viggano was there however to run on to the rebound and slot the ball in for the finish.
71' Kristen Edmonds (Carrie Lawrence) - NC 3, ORL 2
The home side added another with Carrie Lawrence turning to her right and playing a ball to Kristen Edmonds with the outside of her right foot, who then dribbled into the area before hitting a left-footed shot into the far post to cut the North Carolina lead to one.
90+2' Ally Haran (Marta) - ORL 3, NC 3
The Pride leveled with Marta sending in a dangerous free kick from the right side, finding the head of short-term contract signee Ally Haran, who hit it home for her first professional goal to draw the home side back from three goals down.
Ally Haran scored her first professional goal in the match to draw the Pride level in second half stoppage time. Haran was signed to a short-term contract by Orlando ahead of the Fall Series.
Marisa Viggiano scored her second goal of the Fall Series in the match and her third across all competitions since being drafted by the Pride at the 2019 NWSL College Draft.
Kristen Edmonds netted her first goal of the Fall Series and her first for the Pride since July 14, 2018 against the Utah Royals. Edmonds has now scored 10 times for the Pride across all competitions since joining the Club in 2016.
Carrie Lawrence registered her first NWSL goal contribution in the match with the assist on Edmonds' 71st-minute finish.
Marta registered her first assist of the Fall Series on the game-tying goal by Haran.
Defender Toni Pressley captained the Pride for the second time to start a match since joining the Club in the 2016. Pressley last wore the armband in the Pride's last Breast Cancer Awareness Match on Oct. 12, 2019, coming off the bench to make her first appearance since undergoing treatment for that very disease.
Saturday served as the Club's second Breast Cancer Awareness Match, wth the Pride wearing BCA warm-up tops ahead of the match that will be raffled off at a later date.
The match served as the first for the Pride at Exploria Stadium since October 12, 2019, in a match that also marked the Club's first-ever Breast Cancer Awareness Match.
