Pride Doomed By Surf Homers; 5-3

(Nashua, N.H., August 27, 2008) The Nashua Pride were not able to hold back the Atlantic City Surf, who powered past Nashua, 5-3, at Historic Holman Stadium on Wednesday night.

Surf designated hitter Clyde Williams belted a pair of home runs in the game and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead A.C. Shortstop Anthony Granato belted the game winning home run in the seventh inning, a two-run shot, and ended his night 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Nashua's Bryan Duplissie cranked his 17th homer of the year in the effort and went 1-for-3 with a RBI, while teammates Mike Torres (0-for-2) and Dorian Rojas (2-for-4) collected RBI for the home team.

Pride starter Isaac Burkett (3-6) suffered the loss going seven innings, giving up five runs, on seven hits, two walks and two strike outs. Relievers Mike Joyce and Jason Paul combined to pitch two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Surf starting pitcher Rory Shortell (10-3) earned the victory lasting six innings, giving up three runs, on eight hits, two walks and two strike outs. J.C. Huguet, Tony Pierce, and Kyle George all pitched a scoreless inning in relief, with George earning his sixth save of the season.

The Pride and Surf will close out their season series on Thursday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Matt O'Brien (2-1) to the mound in Nashua's Holman Stadium finale. Atlantic City will counter with Charlie Ruud (0-1) to the hill
