American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(Nashua, N.H., August 26, 2008) Nashua Pride first baseman Jerod Edmondson belted a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the twelfth inning to lift Nashua over the Atlantic City Surf, 8-6, at Historic Holman Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Pride were down 6-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when shortstop Sandy Almonte (2-for-5, GS, 4 RBI) blasted a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season, over the center field wall. Second baseman Dorian Rojas (2-for-5, 2 RBI) then tagged a RBI triple off the wall in right field to score center fielder Ervin Alcantara (0-for-4) to tie the game. Alcantara reached on a two out error.
Edmondson's homer was his third walk-off RBI for the Pride this season, having earned a bases loaded walk and a winning RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning in back-to-back games against the Brockton Rox earlier in the year. He finished the night 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Pride starter Lance Stevens (6-8) did not factor in a decision, going four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs, on six hits, five walks and five strike outs. Pride reliever Brett Palanski (2-3) earned the win pitching a scoreless twelfth inning. Adam Piechowski struck out five in three innings of work.
Surf starting pitcher Adam Cox (8-2) also ended with a no-decision, going five innings, giving up one run, on one hit, two walks and eight strike outs. Reliever Walker Whitley (1-5) suffered the loss.
The Pride and Surf will play again on Wednesday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Isaac Burkett (3-5) to the mound against Atlantic City's Rory Shortell (9-3).
