Sky Blue FC News Release
Seattle, Wash. (Friday, June 5, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (1-3-4, 7 points) has headed west for a midseason match-up with Seattle Reign FC (2-2-2, 8 points) on Saturday night, facing off at Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the match is set for 10:00 PM EST and can be watched live via YouTube.
"This is a great challenge for our group," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "We have a young team that has continued to develop and grow, and we are really happy with the way we have been playing. Obviously, we have not gotten the results that our play has deserved."
Seattle enters this match with a 2-0-1 home record, and they have outscored their opposition in those three games by a count of 8-2.
"This game is similar to going into Kansas City where you are playing a team that has not lost in their home stadium, so it is another huge challenge," Gabarra continued (Sky Blue FC defeated FC Kansas City on the road during NWSL Opening Weekend, 1-0). "For the most part, our group has played better when it has been presented with its biggest challenges, so we are expecting a very good performance on Saturday night."
Last Sunday, Sky Blue FC was home at Yurcak Field, hosting the Houston Dash in an eventual 1-1 draw. The New Jersey side got out to an early lead in the match via an 11th minute Kristin Grubka to Hayley Haagsma connection, but an equalizer by Dash striker Allie Bailey leveled the game in the 86th minute. Goalkeeper Brittany Cameron put on a stellar performance in the contest that included six point blank saves, including a blocked penalty kick in the second half.
Seattle has played just once since a 1-1 draw with Sky Blue FC on May 9th in New Jersey, which was a scoreless stalemate last weekend against the NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars at Memorial Stadium.
Following this weekend, the National Women's Soccer League will take a break for the Group Stage of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. Sky Blue FC will resume play when it returns home to Yurcak Field on Sunday, June 28th, hosting the Chicago Red Stars at 6:00 PM EST.
