
Preview: Pats Begin Key Home-And-Home in Swift Current

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats play their biggest series of the year, as they begin a home-and-home set tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Swift Current Broncos at the InnovationPlex.
The Pats and Broncos are neck-and-neck in the Eastern Conference standings, with two points separating the two clubs heading into action tonight. The Broncos do have three games in hand on the Pats with Regina sitting in seventh and Swift Current in eighth.
The Pats are coming off a weekend sweep of two of the top teams in the WHL, defeating Saskatoon (7-4) and Portland (4-3) on Saturday night. The Pats have now won three straight games. On Saturday in the Pats 4-3 win over the Winterhawks, Connor Bedard scored twice (2G-1A) as well as the game-winner and Alexander Suzdalev tallied two points (1G-1A) in the victory. Braxton Whitehead scored for a second straight contest and Drew sim made 30 saves for his third straight win. The final shots were 38-33. The Pats went 1-5 on their power play and 1-2 on their penalty kill.
Meanwhile, the Swift Current Broncos enter tonight's game coming off a 5-4 shootout loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday on home ice, as they have now lost three of their last four games (1-2-0-1), having been outscored 19-to-14 during that time. On Wednesday, the Broncos had a 2-1 lead midway through the second stanza before Medicine Hat scored three unanswered goals, leading 4-2 after two. In the third, Swift Current would tie the game with two goals, and Connor Hvidston (1G-2A) getting the tying goal late in the third before falling in the shootout.
Josh Filmon scored twice (2G-1A) and Mathew Ward tallied two assists in the loss. Josh Fluker scored his first of the season and Joey Rocha made 28 saves. The final shots were 32-27 for Medicine Hat. The Broncos were 1-6 on the power play and 3-5 on the penalty kill. Their loss on Wednesday to Medicine Hat also snapped their five game home winning-streak.
