USL Louisville City FC

Preview: LouCity Welcomes Orlando City B for Match Day 3

April 8, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A second consecutive home game offers Louisville City FC (1-1-0, 3 points) a chance at redemption after a blustery home opener against New York Red Bulls II. Match Day 3 offers a familiar foe in a new form: Orlando City B (0-1-1, 1 point).

The history between Orlando City and LouCity intertwines at every level as the two Clubs were directly affiliated in 2015 and share a high-level of familiarity between each other's rosters and technical staffs.

Hello Again: LouCity was the USL affiliate to Major League Soccer's Orlando City SC in 2015 - both clubs' inaugural seasons in their respective leagues. The two sides even grappled each other in a head-to-head friendly last August - with LouCity claiming a 3-1 result. The MLS side developed Orlando City B during the offseason and Louisville City entered its second year as an independent USL team. Although there's no animosity in the breakup, the rivalry is sure to share a big brother vs. little brother dynamic.

Old Friends: The two sides share a much deeper connection than a shade of purple. LouCity gaffer James O'Connor played 41 games for Orlando City (2012-14) and served as a player-assistant coach toward the end of his career. O'Connor shared the field with current LouCity players George Davis IV and captain Aodhan Quinn at Orlando City; he also played alongside his Orlando City counterpart, coach Anthony Pullis from 2012-14.

Bounce-Back Time: Both Orlando City B and LouCity need some positive momentum. LouCity enters Match Day 3 tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference while OCB is tied for 10th. An early season claiming of maximum points would keep the pace and avoid falling off the pace at the top of the table. A win would propel LouCity into a difficult string featuring five matches - four away from home - in 18 days.

Entering 2016, Louisville City FC has returned 13 players from the 2015 roster - including reigning USL Goal of the Season winner and 2016 captain Quinn and former English Premier League striker Cameron Lancaster. New additions include MLS Cup-winning forward Chandler Hoffman, University of Louisville alumnus Paolo DelPiccolo and University of Kentucky alumnus George Davis IV.

LouCity returns for its second game of 2016 Louisville Slugger Field on April 9 to host Orlando City B with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The el Jimador Pitch Party will launch at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot between E. Witherspoon St. and E. Washington St. with musical performances by DJ Sam Sneed, powered by Do502. Food Trucks will include POLLO: a Gourmet Chicken Joint, Boo Boo Smoke Shack, and Pagva Victor and drink selections by Festival Cuisine offer lower prices than inside Slugger Field. MagBooth will offer free LouCity photobooth sessions and official LouCity merchandise will be available as well.
