NEWS AND NOTES
Last Time Out: Ondrej Becher got the scoring started just over a minute in against the Prince Albert Raiders, but it was all they could muster, falling 4-1 last Saturday night. The Cougars had their second-best crowd of the season, with 5,101 fans at the CN Centre.
'Chase' ing History: Cougars forward Chase Wheatcroft is one power-play goal away from setting the franchise's single season power-play goal record. Wheatcroft tied Berkeley Buchko (2000-01) for the lead with 18 power-play goals in a single season. Wheatcroft has a chance to break the record at home vs Victoria tonight.
Against the Royals: It has been nearly three months since the Cougars last met Victoria. The Cougars thumped the Royals in both contests, outscoring the opposition 14-3 and collecting four points. The weekend was highlighted by Hudson Thornton who collected six points (3G 3A) in the 9-2 victory on November 18th.
On the Other Side: The Victoria Royals enter tonight's game against the Cougars with points in six of their last 10 games and are tied for the 8th and final playoff spot with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Conference. Offensively, the Royals are led by 20-year-old Jake Poole who owns 27 goals and 28 assists in 46 games this season.
Braden Holt: Braden Holt was acquired by the Royals earlier this season from the Everett Silvertips, and he has been dialled in ever since joining the new club. In 12 games as a Royal, Holt owns a 7-3-1-1 record, along with a 3.17 goals against average, and a .905 save percentage. Holt has 20 wins total this season combined with the Royals and Silvertips, two of which came against the Cougars.
