Preview: Austin Bold FC V San Antonio FC

August 14, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Bold FC News Release

Austin, TX - Austin Bold FC are on the road for the first time this season as they travel down I-35 to play rivals San Antonio FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night. The Bold will be looking for revenge after SAFC got the better of them two weeks ago at Bold Stadium. This will be the second meeting between the two Copa Tejas sides. In the new USL Championship Return to Play format, they will meet four times in 2020. The Bold Familia will be able to catch all the night's action on ESPN+.

New Players Showing Up Big

Since the USL Championship Return to Play, Head Coach Marcelo Serrano will be ecstatic on how his latest signings have integrated into his returning squads under such strange conditions. Omar Ciss was vital in the buildup play to set up Sonny Guadarrama's goal against OKC Energy FC, and Billy Forbes found the back of the net against San Antonio FC. Even with those bright spots, the results weren't in favor of The Bold. Last Saturday's match against Rio Grande Valley FC saw all the pieces finally come together. Ismaila Jome scored twice and assisted Ates Diouf for their first goals in Bold shirts. Not to be left out, Forbes scored his second of the season in the 4-1 victory. After the match, Jome spoke on his goals, "It feels amazing to be able to score my first goals for the team and help the team get back to winning. I continually work hard on improving my game and happy that work is paying off on the field."

Undefeated Behind Cristian Parano

Even though it's never fun to admit when they are playing well, San Antonio FC has restarted the 2020 season in great form. The South Texas club is undefeated in six matches, putting them on top of Group D with 14 points. The latest result being a goalless draw against FC Tulsa midweek. The catalyst for these results has been San Antonio native Cristian Parano. With three goals and two assists in four matches, Parano has shined this season. The number ten is the engine in the middle that makes SAFC tick with an 88.8% successful pass rate and eight key passes. Even with these impressive stats, The Bold will feel they can get something out of Saturday's match. San Antonio has only let in three goals this season, and two of them came against Austin.

Ismaila Jome Selected to Team of the Week

USL Championship announced the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 7 of the 2020 regular season on Tuesday, with Austin Bold FC defender Ismaila Jome being recognized for his performance against RGV FC Toros on Saturday night at Bold Stadium. Jome was essential in Bold's 4-1 win against The Toros. The fullback recorded two goals and one assist, completed 52 of 65 passes, and made six recoveries in his 90-minute outing. Both goals were a first for Jome in a Bold shirt since moving to the Capital City this offseason. After the match, Jome spoke on his performance. Phoenix Rising FC's Junior Flemmings earned Player of the Week with 60% of the votes, with Jome coming in second with 20%. The Championship's Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship.
