September 8, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Bold FC News Release

Austin, TX - Let's do this again. The Bold take on FC Tulsa for a second time this week at Bold Stadium. Last Saturday's match was the second draw between the two clubs this season. If the previous two meetings have shown anything, these teams are incredibly similar. They both have 14 points with identical records and are battling for the final playoff spot. The main difference this time around is The Bold Familia is there to back The Bold. For the first time since March, fans will be allowed back into Bold Stadium to cheer on the boys. If you wish to stay home, you can catch the match live on ESPN+.

First for The Bold

There is nothing like the hometown kid scoring in his home stadium. Beto Avila scored his first goal for The Bold in a vital late equalizer to keep Austin in second place in Group D. Avila joined The Bold in 2018 as an academy player before beginning his full professional career right in his own backyard. The Austin native has impressed Coach Marcelo during February's preseason and in training. After Saturday's match, Serrano spoke about Avila's growth. "Beto has been growing in mentality and in maturity. I can see the kid is leaving and a young adult is arriving. I'm so happy for him because he's been working hard to evolve and get better. Hopefully, this is one from many to come."

Nothing Changes

It's still simple.

Today is a must-win.

Nothing changes from last Saturday's match. The Bold and Tulsa are tied on points and battling for the final Group D playoff spot. Whichever team makes the most of today will set themselves up nicely for the last five matches of the regular season. There's only one thing to say...Dale Bold!

Converting Chances

A key to The Bold's potential success tonight is converting chances. During last Saturday's match, Austin outshot Tulsa 21 to 7. Out of those 21 shots, 6 were on target compared to Tulsa's 2. The possession was relatively even, but The Bold carved out much more dangerous scoring chances. With those statistical advantages, a draw would be disappointing but not for Serrano. This is all part of the game plan. Serrano spoke on this earlier this week. "We had a lot of opportunities to score in this game and it shows the players are executing our style of play by creating chances. It was our first home game in a while and I see it as a good performance."
