Season 10 in Southern Arizona is set to get underway this weekend as the Tucson Roadrunners hit the road for a pair of preseason matchups on Saturday and Sunday against the Henderson Silver Knights at Lee's Family Forum.

Tucson's 27-man training camp roster features 15 returning regulars from last year's squad, including seven forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders. The roster also includes four AHL rookies (forwards Jack Ricketts, Owen Allard, Noel Nordh and Michal Kunc), two notable newcomers in defenseman Scott Perunovich and forward Ty Tullio, and several players on PTOs, including longtime Roadrunner Ryan McGregor and goaltender Dryden McKay.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

Sophomore Standouts on the Back End

Three second-year pros are set to anchor the Roadrunners' blue line in 2025-26 after impressive rookie campaigns. Defensemen Artem Duda, Maveric Lamoureux and Lleyton Moore all return for their sophomore seasons. Duda, who switched from No. 78 to No. 8, led Tucson rookies in points a year ago (29) - finishing with the 10th-most by a rookie in team history and the third-most by a rookie defenseman. His +15 rating was the highest ever by a Roadrunners rookie blueliner. Lamoureux became the only Tucson skater to debut in both the AHL and NHL last season, making his first of 15 appearances with Utah against Colorado on Oct. 24. Moore, who re-signed with the Roadrunners this summer, chipped in timely offense from the back end, including one of just two game-winning goals by a Tucson defenseman in 2024-25.

Strong Finish, Hot Starts

Goaltender Jaxson Stauber aims to open the 2025-26 campaign the same way he closed last season. In Tucson's First Round Playoff series against Abbotsford, the Minnesota native stopped 72 of 77 shots across two games, posting a 2.61 goals-against average and .935 save percentage. He set a franchise postseason record with 38 saves in Game 2 to earn his first Calder Cup Playoff victory. Stauber also appeared in six NHL contests with Utah during 2024-25, going 2-1-1 with a 3.26 GAA and .892 SV%. His highlight came on Nov. 30, 2024, when he recorded his first NHL shutout - and the first in Utah's franchise history - by blanking the Golden Knights with 29 saves in a 6-0 win in Vegas.

New Faces in the Desert

This weekend's preseason series against Henderson could mark the unofficial debut of several Roadrunners newcomers: Allard, Kunc, Ricketts, Perunovich and Tullio. Allard, 21, is set for his first pro season after four years with the OHL's Soo Greyhounds, where he tallied 103 points (49g, 54a) in 166 games. He also earned the Fittest Player Award at Utah's 2025 Development Camp. Ricketts joins Tucson following a standout collegiate career with Quinnipiac (2024-25) and Holy Cross (2020-24). He entered last season as the NCAA's active leader in career goals (46) and recorded a career-best 20 tallies for the Bobcats. Perunovich signed a one-year, two-way deal with Utah on July 1 after NHL stints with the Blues and Islanders, totaling 32 points in 108 NHL games across three seasons. Kunc arrives for his first North American campaign after six years in Czechia, where he led HC Olomouc in assists and points last season and ranked fourth in the league at +22. Tullio, meanwhile, signed a one-year AHL contract with Tucson this summer after splitting 2024-25 between Calgary and Rochester. The Detroit native has 62 points in 160 career AHL games with the Wranglers, Americans and Condors.

WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO SAY?

Head Coach Steve Potvin on which Roadrunners player impressed him most during the Utah Mammoth's Training Camp:

"Max (defenseman Max Szuber) had a really good summer. He put the time in. You could see him checking forwards and doing a lot of the things we were asking him to do. He really advanced his game over the summer."

Potvin on entering his fifth season as Tucson's head coach:

"Every year offers that excitement again. You're with new players, and with each season that passes you learn so much. You can't wait to get back into the grind. And to be able to do it with the people you've been with for the past 10 years - it's special. I've been the head coach for five, but I've been here since the beginning. To go through that with the fans and understanding the history, it's definitely special."

WE'RE DOING IT LIVE
