DAYTON - Jamie Carroll scored two goals and Sebastian Dahm stopped 36 of 38 shots in goal to carry the Bloomington PrairieThunder to a 4-2 International Hockey League victory over the Dayton Gems before 2,319 people Friday at Hara Arena.
The victory was the second straight over Dayton and the fifth in the last six games for the PrairieThunder. It also solidified Bloomington's hold on fourth place over the Gems in the standings with a 19-15-2-4 record (44 points). Dayton's record dropped to 17-21-3-1 (38 points).
The PrairieThunder returns to action Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. contest against league-leading Muskegon at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in the first of three straight home games. Bloomington meets Quad City at 4:05 p.m. Sunday and Flint at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
Carroll put Bloomington ahead, 2-0, with a pair of first period goals off assists by Craig Macdonald and Jon Booras. The first goal was on a power play. The PrairieThunder finished with one power play goal on three attempts.
Cole Ruwe scored what proved to be the game-winning goal midway through the second period off an assist by Robin Gomez. It was Ruwe's second goal of the season.
Dayton cut the deficit to 3-2 on scores by Pierce Norton with 3:56 left in the second period and Preston Briggs with 13:02 to go in the game. Macdonald took the pressure off the PrairieThunder when he scored an empty-net goal with 56 seconds remaining.
Dayton owned a 38-24 advantage in shots and was unsuccessful on four power play attempts.
