Quad City Mallards News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to the host Fort Wayne Komets 4-1 Friday night as Leo Thomas, P.C. Drouin, Kaleigh Shrock and Brad MacMillan provided the Fort Wayne goals and Nick Boucher stopped 33 Mallard shots.
A stretch of just under four minutes late in in the second period produced three goals and would prove decisive. The Komets were on the power play when Drouin doubled what had been a 1-0 lead with with a one timer from the right wing circle at 15:48 of the second. The Mallards would respond just 22 seconds later when Joel Gasper buried a rebound to reduce the margin to 2-1. However, the Komets forged back in front by two with just 25 seconds left in the second when Kaleigh Shrock swept the puck home from the doorstep.
The Komets nursed the two goal lead the rest of the way until Brad MacMillan finished the job for Fort Wayne with an empty net goal in the final minute of the third period.
Fort Wayne's Leo Thomas scored the only goal of the first period on a wraparound at the 16:07 mark.
