PrairieThunder to Give Away Team Pictures

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Team pictures of the Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey team will be given away to the first 3,000 fans through the doors at Saturday's 7:05 p.m. International Hockey League game at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Port Huron.

The team picture give-away, sponsored by CEFCU, is just one of a number of activities that will involve the PrairieThunder on Saturday.

For starters, team mascot Chip and various PrairieThunder staff and players will appear throughout the day at the Pantagraph's annual Kid's Expo at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Chip will appear later in the day at a school carnival at Sugar Creek Elementary school from 4 to 5 p.m.

It will be Heartland Community College Night at the game with the PrairieThunder players attired in specially designed game jerseys, depicting the Heartland Hawks logo, which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder following the game.

A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Heartland Community College scholarship fund along with any money raised from post-game functions on the ice operated by Heartland College officials.

The third round of the PrairieThunder Country Idol contest, sponsored by the PrairieThunder in conjunction with the Illinois Country Music Association and B-104 FM, will be held during the first intermission.

The contest will pit Travis Parks against Stephanie Foster with the winner advancing to the finals March 21 to compete against previous winners Mike Porter and Missy Vail.

Contestants are limited to a four-minute performance during the first intermission. Fans will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite performers through the second intermission. The fan vote counts 25 percent and judges vote 75 percent in determining which performer advances in the competition.

Fans purchasing tickets to the PrairieThunder game will have the opportunity to receive $4 off a regularly priced $13 ticket by showing a B 104 Country Club card.

Recently signed Bloomington Extreme indoor football player Peter Warrick, the No. 4 selection in the 2000 NFL draft and a finalist for the 1999 Heisman Trophy, will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans. The Extreme kicks off its season March 7 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Fans can take advantage of the $4 off the regularly priced discount when purchasing tickets at the box office if they are dressed in Extreme apparel. Fans may take advantage of only one discount offer and can not combine the two.

It's also Fairbury Community and Prairie Aviation Museum's Challenger Learning Center Night at the PrairieThunder game. The Prairie Central High School pep band will entertain the crowd before and during the game.

Meanwhile, officials from the Prairie Aviation Museum's Challenger Learning Center will have space and aviation related hands-on activities on the concourse, including an airplane flight simulator. A " mystery astronaut: will be roaming the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

To wrap up the night, following the post-game Heartland Community College jersey auction, PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde will hold a 20-minute session with fans in the Corn Palace Restaurant.

Skalde will offer comments about the game and answer questions from the fans about the game.
