PrairieThunder loses fourth straight

FLINT, Mich. - Flint scored three goals in the third period, including two on power plays, to defeat the Bloomington PrairieThunder, 3-1, Friday night at Perani Arena and Event Center before 1,719 people in United Hockey League action. The loss was the fourth straight for the PrairieThunder, which brings a 5-11 record into today's home game against Port Huron at 7:05 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. "It will be good to get back home," said PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth, whose team ended a five-game road trip with a 1-4 record. "Hopefully our confidence with our goal scorers gets there and we finish. "We're there. We're there. We just have to get over this lousy hump." The PrairieThunder took a 1-0 lead 1 minute, 42 seconds into the third period on an unassisted goal by Mathieu Brunelle. Then, it was all Flint as the Generals' Mike Zbriger scored on a power play 3:30 into the third period with an assist from Jeff Zehr and Tony Tuzzollino. It didn't take Tuzzollino long to add his first goal as a Generals by finding the net 2:03 later on an assist by Jan Eriksson and Zbriger. The Generals scored their final goal on a power play by Bobby Reynolds at the 10:35 mark off an assist from Terry Marchant and Dion Hyman. Flint was successful on 2 of 8 power plays, while Bloomington was shut out on four power play attempts. Flint only had five shots on goal in the third period, but scored three times. The PrairieThunder owned a 26-19 advantage on shots on goal. Bloomington had 12 penalties for 48 minutes, while Flint spent 20 minutes in the penalty box on six infractions. The victory was the second in a row for Flint, which moved its record to 6-10-2. Port Huron, which has a 5-12-2 record, defeated the PrairieThunder (1-0) in Port Huron a week ago.

Thunder obtains Bourassa

The PrairieThunder obtained defenseman Jared Bourassa from Rockford on Friday for future considerations. He will be available for action tonight. The 6-foot, 200-pound Boaurassa led the ECHL defensemen in scoring with the Idaho Steelman in his second pro season with 37 points a year ago. He had 13 goals and 24 assists. His plus/minus rating of plus-17 was the third best for the Steelheads. He made his pro debut with Oklahoma City during the 2004-05 season and was named to CHL's all-rookie team and ranked second on the team for defensemen with 35 points.
