PrairieThunder Fall to Defending Champs 2-1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two second-period goals proved to be the difference as the Bloomington PrairieThunder dropped a 2-1 International Hockey League contest to two-time defending champion Fort Wayne before a sellout crowd of 10,511 people Friday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The loss dropped the PrairieThunder record to 1-2, ahead of Saturday's season home opener at 7:05 p.m. against Dayton (1-1-1) at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The victory moved Fort Wayne's record to 2-1-1.

Tomas Klempa scored Fort Wayne's first goal 32 seconds into the second period off an assist by Leo Thomas. The Komets' second score came on an unassisted goal by Kaleigh Schrock with 4:56 left in the second period.

Bloomington's lone goal came with 1:22 remaining in the game by Jon Booras with assists to Ryan Finnerty and Brett Holmberg. Both teams had 36 shots on goal.

Bloomington goalie Paulo Colaiacovo stopped 34 shots in the loss. Nick Boucher was the winning goalie by stopping 35 shots. The PrairieThunder was shut out on six power play attempts and Fort Wayne was unsuccessful on one. There were 44 minutes of penalties with the Komets guilt of 27.

The Bloomington PrairieThunder is in its fourth season and competes in the International Hockey League. The IHL is a Double AA-Plus professional league. Other league members are the Dayton Gems, the Flint Generals, Fort Wayne Komets, Muskegon Lumberjacks, Port Huron IceHawks and Quad City Mallards.
