Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA- With the start of the United States Hockey League season this weekend, the battle to be Eastern Iowa's best is about to begin. The Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup rivalry series returns this year, as Eastern Iowa's three USHL teams: the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Dubuque Fighting Saints and Waterloo Black Hawks, compete for the annual traveling trophy awarded to the team with the best head-to-head record with their rivals.
"We are excited for the third season of partnering with the three eastern Iowa teams for the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup," said Prairie Farms Sales Manager Stacy Wand. "All three of these cities support our company and our great products. We are thrilled to be able to continue to work with these teams and the Cowbell Cup."
All three teams will play each other a total of six times in games that will count towards the Cowbell Cup standings. Dubuque and Waterloo play six times this year, as do Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. The Fighting Saints and the RoughRiders play eight games against each other, and to even out the number of games, the Saturday, September 27 game in Cedar Rapids and the Friday, January 2 game in Dubuque will not count towards the Cowbell Cup standings.
Cedar Rapids and Dubuque will battle on November 15, February 6, February 7, February 22, March 21 and March 28 in Cowbell Cup play. Dubuque and Waterloo play on October 3, November 14, January 3, February 28, March 13 and April 11. Cedar Rapids and Waterloo also faceoff six times in Cowbell Cup play on October 17, November 27, November 29, February 14, March 27, April 10. In 2013-2014, the Fighting Saints fell just short of attaining their third straight Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup, posting a 3-2-2 record against Cedar Rapids, and 3-3-0 mark against the Black Hawks, finishing in second place. Waterloo claimed the title for the first time, going 3-1-2 against Dubuque and 5-1-0 against the RoughRiders. The Fighting Saints won the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons.
Prairie Farms Dairy became the title sponsor of the Cowbell Cup in 2012. The company, headquartered in Carlinville, Illinois, has a strong footprint in Iowa. Prairie Farms Dairy has a plant in Dubuque and a distribution branch in Iowa City.
The Fighting Saints first game at home is Saturday, October 4 at 7:05 p.m. versus Omaha on Opening Night presented by American Trust. The first 3,000 fans will receive a magnetic calendar schedule. Queen B Radio is also holding a pregame tailgate featuring music, food and drinks starting at 5 p.m. outside the Mystique Community Ice Center.
