Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

FORT WORTH, TX - The Prairie Dogs began Saturday night's game riding the same upswing they had built over the first two games of their weekend series in Fort Worth. But after snatching a 5-0 lead before the bottom of the second inning, the Dogs lost a slugfest at LaGrave Field, 9-7.

With the game tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh, Abilene handed the ball to Scott Vander Weg. The righty allowed a pair of infield hits before intentionally walking Gabe Memmert to load the bases with two outs. That brought Derek Marshall to the plate who promptly punched a two-run single into right-field to help the Cats build the winning margin.

Abilene scored on the second pitch of the game when Jason Martin's first homer of the season flew over the left-centerfield fence and registered another run in the top of the first when Nick Ochoa drove in Joe Weik with an R.B.I. single.

The Dogs jumped on Fort Worth Starter Kane Holebrooks and did not let the righty off the hook. The visitors scored three more times in the second inning on a trio of run-scoring singles from Adam De La Garza, Wilson Batista, and Kyle Nichols to make it 5-0, Holebrooks exited before the top of the third.

The Cats began their comeback with one run in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the bottom of the third.

Batista blasted his second round-tripper of the season with a monster homer to right-field in the top of the fourth to extend the Prairie Dogs lead to 6-3.

However, Abilene starter Braden Tullis could not get out of the fourth inning. The 22-year-old righty allowed three runs on two hits, a walk, and hit batter in the inning. The last man Tullis faced was Scott Dalrymple. The catcher was squaring to bunt when Tullis plunked the righty hitter in the head with a fastball. Dalrymple fell to the dirt and lay still for a few moments before being helped to his feet, he walked off the field on his own power. According to the Cats twitter account, Dalrymple was hit in the left cheek and did not suffer a concussion.

Steven Barnes, who threw four relief innings for the Cats, hit Chris Caves to being the top of the fifth inning before home plate umpire Dale Luker warned both benches.

The Prairie Dogs and Cats conclude the four-game weekend series at 6:05 on Sunday evening. Hear the game on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com.
