PowerSurge Dance Team Completes 10-Member Dance Team Roster

Worcester, MA. ...As the New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), ramps up for their second season of fast-paced, high-impact professional indoor football, the PowerSurge Dance Team start working on their dance routine in preparation for the home opener on April 20, 2008 at the DCU Center.

It took two open auditions looking at many, many participants for Karen Chevailer, PowerSurge Director to finalize her dance team of 10. Chevalier states, "I am so thrilled with the caliber of women who auditioned and finally made the cut for the PowerSurge Dance Team. Most of them are award winning dancers, have performed in many productions, and/or currently instruct at local dance studios."

The talent pool consists of women such as Tiffany Walls a Worcester resident who is a pre-med senior student specializing in forensic pathology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Walls a trained dancer, also graduated from Burncoat High School where she was a member of both the Dance Team and the Dance Ensemble. Due to her busy academic schedule, serving as President of the WPI Dance Team and working as an instructor at Nola Borrelli's Dance Studio, she will be a PowerSurge alternate. The names and profile of all the10-member finalists are also listed below.

The Power Surge was a big hit last year and this year they promise to be even better. Karen Chevalier took over as Director for the Surge's second season after serving as Dance Consultant in the Surge's inaugural season. In addition, Chevalier brings extensive professional training and dance experience to her new role as Director. She serves as a dance instructor at JoAnn Warren Studio in Worcester and was one of the original members of the 1994 Mass Marauder Magic dance team of the ArenaFootball League. She is very excited about being able to have the PowerSurge's dance routines come to life in front of thousands of fans as the dance team performs in its second season.

Meet New England Surge's New 2008 PowerSurge Dance Team

Leandra Brown

Leandra is a 19 year old Worcester resident. She graduated from South High in 2006 and is currently employed by Gilly Hicks at Natick Collections. Leandra has had extensive dance training from JoAnn Warren Studio, where she was a member of the competition team. She has taken part in many master classes from many nationally and internationally known choreographers. Leandra has experience as a dance instructor with the Chandler Elementary School after school program, Assabet Valley Adult Night Classes and the Oxford Community Center. She loves to dance, spend time with friends, school and music.

Jamie Cantillon

Jamie is a 24 year old Worcester resident with extensive dance training and experience. She graduated from St. Peter-Marian High School in 2002 and is currently a dance teacher at Greendale Dance Academy. Some of Jamie's dance experiences include being on the national and international tours with various Sesame Street Live productions. She has been a performer at Walt Disney World. Jamie was also part of the half-time show at the MLS Cup Soccer Championships. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. In her free time, Jamie enjoys doing background extra work, scrap booking and going out with friends.

Michelle Duclos

Michelle is 22 year old college student from Worcester. Michelle is currently attending Holy Cross where she is a Senior with a major in English and Education. Michelle also graduated from Burncoat High School. Michelle has received her dance training from Diane Kelley Dance Studios, Mary McInerney School of Irish Step Dancing and with the Holy Cross Dance Ensemble. Michelle is currently a student teacher with the Burncoat High School Dance Department, as well as the publicist and lyrical/ballet choreographer for Holy Cross Dance Ensemble. In addition to dance, Michelle enjoys the beach, music and running.

Meghan Gaucher

Meghan is a 22 year old Worcester resident. She graduated from Burncoat High School in 2003. Meghan has extensive dance training in all styles of dance. She has performed with Burncoat High School as a dancer in their spring musicals, as well as at the MLS Cup half-time show. Meghan was a choreographer and performer with Cosmo All Elements Boston and more recently with Lexcano's East Coast Tour. Meghan was a dance instructor at JoAnn Warren Studio, where in conjunction she was able to share her dance experience with St. Mark's High School, the Worcester Public Schools after school programs and with Assabet Valley Adult Program. In addition to her love of dance, Meghan enjoys surfing, snowboarding, concerts, big cities, performing, meatloaf, beaches, teaching, designing clothes, music and traveling.

Ashley Haller

Ashley is a 24 year old Chicopee resident. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 2002 and is currently a graduate student at the University of Hartford with a major in communication. Ashley's dance and cheerleading background includes being a member of the Titan All Star Cheerleading Squad, Head Cheerleading Coach for East Longmeadow High School, and a member of LaSalle University Spirit Team. Ashley is a returning member to the Power Surge Dance Team for 2008, and will take on a lead role this year as one of the captains. She loves cheerleading, coaching and spending time with family and friends.

Christine Helems

Christine is a 23 year old Chicopee resident. She graduated from Easthampton High School and attended UMass Amherst. While at UMass, Christine was part of the co-ed cheer team for 2 years. She was also an original member of the Power Surge Cheerleaders and is continuing as a member of the 2008 Power Surge Dance Team. Her interests include dancing and cheering.

Amanda Karalus

Amanda is a 22 year old Auburn resident. She is a Case Specialist at Massachusetts Trial Court. Amanda graduated from South High School in 2003 and attended Anna Maria College. She is a dance teacher at Sally McDermott Dance Centers. In 2005 and 2006, Amanda was the Assistant Choreographer for the Kids on Broadway productions at the Pomfret School. She has been a dancer for many local benefits and productions. She carries many dance awards with her, and has been trained by many nationally and internationally known choreographers. Amanda loves dancing, teaching and being with friends.

Kristen Senior

Kristen is a 19 year old Worcester resident. She graduated from Burncoat High School in 2006, where she was the captain of the dance team and all of the musical and theater productions. Kristen has performed off-broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York. She was the Assistant Choreographer for Kelly G Entertainment in Los Angeles, CA. Kristen's hobbies and interests include, snowboarding, basketball, breakdancing, wakeboarding, fashion consulting, singing, acting and softball.

Kymberly Young

Kym is a 22 year old Ware resident. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 2004 and Dean College in 2006 with an Associates of Arts in Dance. Kym is currently a dance instructor at Get Up and Dance in Gilbertville, MA, and the Varsity Cheerleading Coach for Ware High School. Kym was an original member of the Power Surge Cheerleaders in 2007, and will continue with the Power Surge Dance Team in 2008, as one of the captains. In her spare time, Kym enjoys scrapbooking, crafts, traveling, volunteering, dancing, performing, pilates and reading.

Cristina Schultz

Cristina is a 19 year old resident of Shelton, CT. She currently attends Stonehill College where she is majoring in communications with a minor in dance. Christina is very involved with many clubs at her school including, Stonehill College Public Relations Society, Leadership Institute, Dance Company Member, Dance Club Member, Dance Team Head Choreographer and Publicity Coordinator. Christina has many awards and achievements on her impressive dance resume, and has done a lot of volunteer work. In addition to her love of dance she enjoys running, working out and weightlifting.

Tiffany Walls

Tiffany is a 21 year old Worcester resident. Tiffany has been asked to be a part of the Power Surge Dance Team in 2008 as an alternate. She graduated from Burncoat High School in 2004 where she was a member of both the Dance Team and Dance Ensemble. Tiffany currently attends Worcester Polytechnic Institute where she is a senior majoring in pre-med. Tiffany is an instructor at Nola Borrelli's Dance Studio and President of the WPI Dance Team. In addition to her love of dance, she enjoys design, forensic pathology, mixing music, HTML format and spending time with family.
