New York, NY - New York Power medical staff, along with General Manager Susan Marenoff gave an update on founding player and defender Sara Whalen, who sustained a torn ACL and MCL on June 26th against the Carolina Courage.

Whalen's road to recovery was slowed when several weeks after her ACL surgery Whalen developed a postoperative infection and allergic reaction to medication necessitating removal of the ACL.

The 26 year old from Greenlawn, NY is currently undergoing intense physical therapy sessions several times a week, working hard to help heal the injury that now leaves her with no ligament in her right knee.

"Sara is on a strong road back and is putting her best efforts forward," said Power GM Susan Marenoff. "The doctors are very impressed with her progress and determination during this rehabilitation period."

Whalen had played and started in all 10 games for the Power before missing the final 11. No return date has been decided on for Whalen's return to training or live action with the Power.
