Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- August 6, 2014)- The West Virginia Power toppled the Hagerstown Suns on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park 7-2. West Virginia tallied four runs in the second to take the early advantage and Luis Heredia tossed six strong innings to lead the Power to a series victory.
The Suns got on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning from Wilman Rodriguez. West Virginia answered when Austin Meadows homered for the second consecutive game in the first inning.
The Power, however, blew the game open with a four-run second inning. Kawika Emsley-Pai, Maximo Rivera and Austin Meadows posted RBI singles in the frame. The Power tacked on two more in the fifth inning when Reese McGuire slammed a solo home run and Wyatt Mathisen doubled in a run.
Luis Heredia (2-4) earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing two runs on six hits. Wirkin Estevez (0-2) was charged with the loss. Austin Meadows drove in three runs for the second consecutive game while Wyatt Mathisen, Maximo Rivera and Erich Weiss tallied multi-hit performances.
West Virginia visits the Asheville Tourists on Thursday, August 7, at McCormick Field. Felipe Gonzalez will take the hill against the Tourists Zach Jemiola.
