Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO, CA - The opening game of the Chico Outlaws-San Diego Surf Dawg series came to an abrupt end Friday night when a power outage at Nettleton Stadium in Chico brought the action to a halt in the top of the 7th inning with the scored tied 2-2.
The outage occurred at exactly 9:00pm Pacific time...the cause was not immediately determined. The Surf Dawgs had a runner at first with one out in the top of the 7th inning when the contest was interrupted. Play will resume at that point Saturday beginning at 6:05pm, immediately preceeding the regularly scheduled 7:05pm. Fans who held tickets to Friday's game are invited to bring their ticket stub for admission to the stadium Saturday to watch the conclusion.
Up until the power outage, the Outlaws and Surf Dawgs were in the midst of an entertaining game - Chico starting pitcher Grant Gregg had allowed two runs on eight hits through six-and-a-third innings, while San Diego starter Brent Pourciau had held the Outlaws to a run on five hits through five. Chico tied the game in the bottom of the 6th inning when Mike Mallory launched his ninth homer of the year...a solo homer over the left field wall. The Outlaws got on the board in the 2nd inning on a two-out Todd Gossage double and an RBI single by Lino Garcia. San Diego scored its runs in the 2nd (Matt Maloney singling home Tony Garcia) and the 4th (Maloney coming home on a Johnny Day double to left).
Saturday's scheduled game will feature right-hander Mike Cosgrove (2-0) on the mound for Chico, with left-hander Justin Ottman (2-2) expected to start for San Diego.
