Power Fall Short of Comeback in 119-117 Loss

(Saint John, NB - ) The Power took to the east on a two game road trip against the Saint John Mill Rats and the Halifax Rainmen. The Power fell just short of a comeback attempt on the first of two games out east. Omar Strong led the way with 35 points and a career high 8 assists. Jordan Weidner chipped in with a solid 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

The game started off even out of the gate until the Mill Rats gained control off of a huge 18-3 run midway through the quarter. The Power would battle back and end the quarter on a 10-2 run, despite that, the Mill Rats took the commanding 35-23 lead after the first.

The Mill Rats continued to dominate the second quarter. Tyrone Levitt knocked down a three pointer to kick things off for the home team. The Power would stay within striking distance thanks to hot three point shooting by Omar Strong and a slam dunk from Doug Thomas. The Mill Rats went on a dominating 12-2 run in the last three minutes of the second, taking a commanding 72-48 lead at the half.

The Power battled the Mill Rats to a draw in the third quarter until the halfway point. The Power suddenly found energy on back to back Jordan Weidner three pointers. Omar Strong also got in on the act, knocking down three trey balls in four minutes. A 9-0 run helped the Power cut the lead to eleven at 92-81 heading into the final frame.

The Mill Rats held the Power at arm's length in the final quarter. The Power went for a miraculous come back, scoring 8 points in the final minute of the quarter off of back to back Tut Ruach three pointers. Paul Cooper missed a potential game-tying put back as the Mill Rats escaped with the 119-117 win.

The Power continue the east coast swing tomorrow night at 6pm (EST) against the Halifax Rainmen.
