Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats built a 24 point half time lead only to see it evaporate down to 2, but fended off the Mississauga Power to win 119-117.

The Mill Rats had everything going their way en route to a 72-58 halftime lead. Johnny Mayhane and Kenny Jones led the way with 20 and 16 points respectively at the break.

The Power pulled within 119-109 after trailing 119-110 on a Tyrone Levett three pointer with just 48 seconds left. But things got shaky after Levett was called for an intentional foul on Tut Ruach. Ruach made both free throws and then hit a three pointer, stole the ball and hit another to complete his own 8-0 run in the span of 18 seconds.

Trying to work the clock the Mill Rats again turned the ball over which rolled into the backcourt and was ruled Power ball with 14 seconds left. The Power failed to connect on a floater and Levett hauled down the game saving rebound.

Kenny Jones led the way with 26 points, Johnny Mayhane 22, Tyrone Levett 18, Keith Cothran 17, Jeremy Williams 11, and Ricky Volcy 10. Omar Strong led the Power with 35 points on 10-17 from behind the arc.

Saint John improves to 15-14 while the Power drops to 7-21.

The Mill Rats next and final home game is February 26th at Harbour Station against the London Lightning. They head to Charlottetown to face the Island Storm on Sunday at 2pm, and visit the Moncton Miracles on Monday night at 7PM in a makeup game.
