New York Power News Release
New York, NY - The New York Power announced their 2003 season schedule today, highlighted by the April 19 home opener against Julie Foudy and the San Diego Spirit at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY. The announcement came from Power General Manager Susan Marenoff.
The Power will host its entire ten game home schedule at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY - home of the Power since the team's inception in 2001. Mia Hamm and her Washington Freedom will make the trip to Mitchel Athletic Complex on Saturday, May 24, while defending champions, the Carolina Courage, will make their only New York appearance on Saturday, June 28.
"With the addition of some new players and coaching staff, we are very excited about the way the 2003 season is shaping up for the Power," said Marenoff. "We believe the team's performance and the total fan experience makes us the best sports and entertainment destination on Long Island."
The Power will play eight home games on Saturdays, one on Wednesday and one match on Friday. Fans coming out to Mitchel Athletic Complex will get more than just a game, as the New York Power-Zone will be open two hours prior to each home game and include many interactive games, sponsor kiosks, music and give-aways. The New York Power mascot "ZAP" will also be present in the Power-Zone.
The game days and starting times will enable the youth soccer community in the Tri-State area to come and cheer for the Power without major conflicts with their own games during the weekends. Times are tentatively set for 7:00 p.m., and may change due to local and national TV coverage. All Power games will be televised locally by MSG Network or affiliate and nationally on PAX TV.
The New York Power is one of eight professional women's soccer teams that make up the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the world's premier women's soccer league. 2003 New York Power tickets remain the same price as last season ($25, $20, $17) and the addition of a $10 ticket price and a flexible 10 ticket voucher "Power Pack" just in time for the holiday season.
