December 19, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
Carolina Courage News Release
Morrisville, NC (December 19, 2002) - The defending WUSA champion Carolina Courage announced its 21-game schedule for 2003 today, as the Women's United Soccer Association prepares to play its third season.
The Courage will kick off its defense of the Founders Cup trophy at SAS Stadium in Cary, NC on April 5th with a rematch of WUSA title game, as Mia Hamm and the Washington Freedom will look for revenge against the reigning WUSA champs.
The Courage's 21-game schedule, consisting of 11 home matches and 10 road games, will include three contests against each of the other seven WUSA teams.
Eight of the 11 games on the Courage's home schedule will take place on weekends, with all of those matches to take place on Saturdays. Two mid-week matches will be played on Wednesdays, and there will also be one special holiday game - a traditional 4th of July extravaganza against archrival Atlanta with a spectacular fireworks display following the game.
The 2003 WUSA All-Star Game is tentatively scheduled for mid-June. The site and time will be announced in the near future. The Inaugural WUSA All-Star Game took place on September 21, 2002 at PGE Park in Portland, OR. The South All-Stars, led by four Courage players, defeated the North All-Stars 6-1.
The WUSA on PAX national television schedule will be announced in the near future.
Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom. The league will kick off its third season on April 5, 2003.
