December 19, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
Atlanta Beat News Release
ATLANTA (December 19, 2002) - The Atlanta Beat today announced its 2003 WUSA regular season schedule of 21 games from April through August, which includes 11 home matches and 10 on the road. The Beat's home opener, set for Saturday, April 5 at Herndon Stadium will match Atlanta versus Tiffeny Milbrett's New York Power. The Beat will hit the road for the first time in Week 4 to face the Founders Cup II runners up Washington Freedom on Saturday, April 26.
"With nine of our 11 home games on weekends and all of our games kicking-off either late afternoon or early evening, our schedule is not only family-friendly, but also extremely compatible with area youth soccer matches," said Beat General Manager, Eddie Rockwell. "This season promises to be the most exciting yet and with the support from our fans, the Beat is aiming to bring the Founders Cup home once and for all."
Ten of eleven Beat home games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., excluding any nationally televised games, which kick-off at 4:00 p.m. Specifics regarding nationally televised games as well as the Beat's local broadcast schedule are forthcoming.
Through two seasons the Beat has posted the most wins in the WUSA and has a combined regular season record of 22-13-8 and is 1-1-1 in the post season. The Beat has been minutes away from a chance at claiming the WUSA Championship in both seasons of the league's existence. Last season, a late equalizer sent the Beat's semifinal match to overtime where the Beat was defeated 2-1 by the eventual Founders Cup II champion Carolina Courage. In 2001, the Beat faced the San Jose CyberRays in the inaugural Founders Cup and after a 3-3 tie through regulation and overtime, was defeated in a penalty kick shootout.
Full Season Tickets as well as a special Five-Game Beat Pack, that features tickets to the most popular games in 2003, are currently available at prices starting at just $99 for all 11 games and $45 for the Five Pack. Individual game tickets will go on sale in February 2003.
