Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - For the second straight night, the Pit Spitters left it late but found a way to down the Rockford Rivets, this time by a score of 6-4. It makes a series sweep and moves their record to 43-17 on the season and 20-4 in the second half

The Pit Spitters overcame an early 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the second inning. A three-run homer from Tom Josten put the Pit Spitters behind but they were able to fight back behind a Michael Slaten (JR Benedictine) RBI double in the first inning and consecutive RBI's from Mario Camilletti (SO Oakland) and Slaten in the second frame.

The Pit Spitters would once again yield their lead late, as the Rivets forced four consecutive walks with two outs in the sixth inning. The blip would only serve to heighten the drama however, as the Pit Spitters, once again, struck late.

With one down in the bottom of the eighth inning, Nick Powell (SO Ball State) single up the middle to start the rally. He would come around to score on a Rivets throwing error that would leave Christian Faust (SO Grand Valley) at third base with one away. At that point, the Pit Spitters executed a suicide squeeze with Riley Bertram (FR Michigan) laying down the bunt to push the lead to two runs.

Taking the win for the Pit Spitters is Kevin Hahn (SR Cal State- Stanislaus,) who moves to 5-0 on the season. Taking the tough luck loss is Adrian Santiago, who pitched five innings, allowing only two unearned runs on two hits, while striking out eight. Kyle Jones (FR Toledo) started for the Pit Spitters, giving up three runs over four innings and taking the no-decision.

The Pit Spitters return to action Tuesday, with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Kalamazoo Growlers.
