Bethlehem, PA: In release made today, the league office of the Professional Indoor Football League announced that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Defensive Back Joe Powell was selected as the Week Five Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the team's 55-39 victory over the Erie Explosion.
Powell (6'2", Globe Tech) was honored as Defensive Player of the Week after his two interception, eight tackle, and one touchdown performance which included a game sealing interception that was returnedfor a score in the fourth quarter. On the season, the Steelhawks Defense has recorded twelve interceptions and have returned five of them for touchdowns.
Additionally the league announced that Nashville Venom WR Jordan Jolly and Richmond Kicker T.C. Stevens were named the Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week.
Powell and the Steelhawks continue on the road this Saturday with a 2014 National Conference Championship rematch against the Trenton Freedom (2-2) at 7:00 PM EST. The team then returns home to Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center on Saturday, May 2nd against the Columbus Lions at 7:05pm. The "Live Fearless Night" game will be brought to the fans by Capital Blue Cross, with the first 1,500 fans receiving a free sports water bottle.
