Glens Falls Dragons News Release

Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons (20-20) came away with a huge 2-1 walk-off victory over the Saugerties Stallions (11-29) Saturday at East Field. Glens Falls is in a three team battle with Mohawk Valley and Albany for the final two playoff spots in the PGCBL East.

Saugerties took the 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Nick Russo (New Haven) worked a base on balls from Glens Falls starter Alex Yarem (Campbell). Russo came around to score on a single to right field from Dylan Jenkins (Susquehanna) and a fielding and throwing error by the Dragons.

Glens Falls pulled even in the bottom of the fifth, finally getting to Saugerties starter Andrew Bruss (Denison). After Harrison Bragg (Tacoma CC) walked, Rich Guglielmi (Saginaw Valley State) singled to advance Bragg to second. With two outs, Danny Oliveri (Triton) singled to right, and Bragg beat the throw to the plate with an outstanding slide to make it 1-1.

From that point on, Yarem and Bruss were locked into a classic pitching duel. Yarem went eight innings for Glens Falls, closing the book with three strike outs, three walks, and scattering six hits before being relieved by Mike Sinnott (NYIT). Bruss also went the distance for the Stallions, yielding nine hits, while striking out five and walking four.

The Dragons put together the winning rally in the bottom of the ninth. With one out Miguel Presno (Flagler) walked. Presno then advanced to second on a passed ball, and continued to third after a Saugerties error. After Matt Flynn (St Anselm) popped up for the second out of the inning, Oliveri walked to put runners on the corners. Mark Powell (Bucknell) then hit a sharp grounder down the first base line. Jenkins, the Saugerties first baseman made a diving stab to prevent the ball from reaching the outfield, but the hustling Powell beat Jenkins to the bag, scoring Presno and giving Glens Falls the walk off win.

Sinnott (1-0) picked up the victory in relief, while Bruss (0-3) took the hard luck loss.

Brendan Price (Felician) was 2 for 4 for the Dragons, while Powell was 2 for 5. Guglielmi also had a pair of safeties.

Jenkins was 3 to 4 for Saugerties.

The Dragons are now off for the All-Star break, and return to East Field for a home game Tuesday in a crucial game against Mohawk Valley. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
