QUOTES

"It was good to get on the ice and get used to the guys after a day of travel. I felt better as the game wore on. Obviously it's a different feeling with a new system and new guys around me, but I felt pretty good." - Hunter Shinkaruk on his debut with the Heat.

"[The San Diego Gulls] scored two in the first, but I just tried to stay focused because you never know what can happen. They put a lot of shots on, but I just had to stick with it." - Kevin Poulin on his facing 50 shots and staying focused.

"I felt comfortable all night, despite [San Diego] getting a couple solid opportunities early on. I was there most of the night and I felt like our guys did a good job of getting chances at the other end." - Poulin on how he felt in net after a rapid first period.

"We bent, but we didn't break - we battled all night. [San Diego] out battled us in that second period and we have to be better than that. We came back in the third and I thought played them to an even period. You need a good goaltender if you want to win hockey games and Poulin was huge for us tonight. He made some unbelievable saves tonight." - Turner Elson on his thoughts of tonight's game.

"[Aaron Johnson] put a nice shot on net and I just tried to sprawl out and get my stick on it with one hand. Fortunately I got a piece and was able to tip it in. Those goals are big to get the confidence back up and hopefully get a few more here." - Elson on his goal that put the Heat up 2-0.

"We had a good first period tonight, but I thought the rest of the game [San Diego] was the better team with the exception of our goaltender. There are some nights where you're not on your very best, but you're able to win those games. Tonight Kevin [Poulin] did a remarkable job allowing us to get this win. He was terrific in the second, the third and on through the shootout. He was the main reason we were able to get the two points tonight." - Head Coach Ryan Huska on the play of Kevin Poulin.

"I thought he looked ok. His line wasn't our best line tonight, but it's tough for a guy coming from the east coast with the time change and all the different things that have gone on in the last day and a half for him. I thought he looked fine tonight for his first game and I see him getting better and better every game he plays here." - coach Huska on what he saw out of Hunter Shinkaruk tonight.
