Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, won their second straight game over the Salem Avalanche Tuesday night on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The final score was 6-1 after seven innings and one out in the eighth. The game was shortened due to rain.
Potomac leaped onto the scoreboard first against Avs starter Sergio Perez. With one out in his team's first at-bat, Nationals first baseman Matt Rogelstad walked. He advanced to second when Sergio Perez hit left fielder Dee Brown. With Marvin Lowrance up, a wild pitch pushed the runners to second and third. Lowrance ran the count full and slammed a pitcher over the right field wall for a 3-0 lead. It was his third home run against the Avs this year.
Salem churned its lone tally out when Tim Torres doubled Josh Flores home with two down in the third. Torres now has provided a hit in six straight games.
Potomac starter Justin Jones finished with a complete game to his name-the third of his career. He tossed seven one-run innings and surrendered just four hits.
The Avalanche has now lost three games in a row for the first time since May 13th through the 15th. Salem hits the field next Wednesday night in the finale with Potomac. The Avs throw lefty Chris Salamida against Potomac's right-hander Craig Stammen.
