WOODBRIDGE, VA- Potomac Nationals first basemen Steve Mortimer was called up to Double-A Harrisburg today, advancing above the Advanced-A level for the first time in his four-year career.
Steve Mortimer was a staple for the P-Nats at first base and in the middle of the lineup. Mortimer was hitting .253 with a career-high 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. He was tied for second in the Carolina League in home runs and led the league in RBIs. His eight stolen bases tied him for the team lead with Edgardo Baez and Ian Desmond.
Mortimer hit .282 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs in the month of May while appearing in 30 of the 32 games the Nationals played. Sixteen of his 31 hits went for extra bases.
The 25-year-old and attended Washington State University and was signed by the Nationals as a non-drafted free agent on October 11, 2003.
