Postponed Road Contest Rescheduled

January 24, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Gorillas game at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum that was postponed on Sunday due to unplayable arena conditions has been rescheduled for February 26th at 5:05 pm, also in Lubbock. Also discussed and agreed to by both teams and the Central Hockey League were the financial issues necessary for Lubbock to reimburse Amarillo for its additional expenses with this newly scheduled event.

The Sunday contest, scheduled for 5:05 pm, was halted over an hour before being postponed due to maintenance issues within the rink, stemming from events at the Coliseum from earlier in the weekend which prevented the arena staff from adequately readying the rink for hockey conditions in time for the Amarillo-Lubbock game.

The Cotton Kings issued the following: The Lubbock Cotton Kings apologize to those in attendance and for those who made the trip from Amarillo but the Cotton Kings feel the best decision was made towards a situation beyond their control. Ticket-holders for the event may redeem their ticket-stub at the Cotton Kings offices (1309 University) to use for any future Cotton Kings contest. Any special requests or questions concerning ticket exchanges may be made by contacting the Cotton Kings offices at (806) 747-PUCK. City of Lubbock officials associated with the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum have elected to discount hotdogs to $1 for the game. Arena officials are also determining other avenues to please fans who attend the newly scheduled game. Additional information will be announced in regards to any additional efforts made at a later time.

Amarillo sits at 17-14-3, second in the Southwest Division with 37 points, just seven behind division-leader Odessa (20-12-4, 44 points). The Cotton Kings are 16-18-1 with 33 points. The Gorillas have two games in hand on Odessa and one on Lubbock.

Amarillo makes the trip to Loveland, Colorado, this afternoon for Wednesday's battle with the CHL defending-champion Colorado Eagles. Colorado leads the league with 56 points but the Gorillas have won three of four battles with the Eagles this season. The contest begins at 8 pm CST.
