TEAM NOTABLES
In the final matchup of a four-game road trip, the New York Liberty (7-6) defeated the Los Angeles Sparks (5-7), 76-73, finishing 2-2 out West. Today's game commemorated the 25th Anniversary of the first-ever WNBA game between the two franchises.
Liberty guard/forward, Betnijah Laney, recorded her 1,000th career point at the 8:02 minute mark in the third quarter, becoming the 226th player in WNBA history to accomplish the feat.
In a contest that saw 14 lead changes and 9 ties, New York finished with 18 team assists. The team also totaled 38 rebounds and 9 steals, and swept the second chance points battle 19-0.
New York finished on 42.1% (24-57) shooting from the field, 32.3% (10-31) from beyond the arc and 90% (18-20) at the free throw line.
Up Next: On Tuesday, June 22, the New York Liberty will take on the Chicago Sky in the team's first-ever Juneteenth game at 7 PM ET at Barclays Center.
PLAYER NOTABLES
Four Liberty players scored in double figures (Allen, Laney, Shook, Whitcomb).
Rebecca Allen led New York scoring with a season-high 19 points on 33.3% (5-15) from the field, 45.5% (5-11) from distance, a season-high six rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Allen also shot perfectly (4-4) from the charity stripe.
Sami Whitcomb added 17 points on 62.5% (5-8) from the field, 50% (3-6) from three, and 100% (4-4) from the line. Whitcomb also totaled a game-and career-high 9 rebounds and three assists.
Betnijah Laney contributed 14 points on 60% (6-10) from the field, five assists and five rebounds. Laney eclipsed the 1,000-point career mark this afternoon, becoming the 226th player in WNBA history to do so.
Sabrina Ionescu added nine points and six rebounds in her return to her home state of California.
Kylee Shook scored 11 points on 71.4% (5-7) shooting from the field, 50% (1-2) from deep, and 7 rebounds her third consecutive game in double figures. Shook also added two steals and two assists.
Erica Wheeler led Los Angeles in scoring with 20 points on 60% (9-15) shooting from the field 10 assists, and six rebounds.
Nia Coffey and Kristi Toliver both tallied 15 points each on the afternoon.
