The Tucson Padres are proud to announce the appearance of two great Mexican performers on Friday, June 7 at Kino Stadium. Lorenzo de Monteclaro and Maribel Guardia are making their first appearances together in Tucson in 25 years. The concert is presented by La Poderosa, Univision and TAP Royal.
Tucson Padres normal ticket prices will apply. The Padres game against Sacramento starts at a special time of 6:05 pm. For fans arriving after 8:00 pm, a special $10 concert-only ticket is available. Fans may go on the field after the Padres game and enjoy the concert in front of the centerfield stage. Tickets are now on sale at the Kino Stadium box office.
About the Performers
Lorenzo de Monteclaro was born on September 5, 1939 and is one of the most famous Mexican norteno singers in the world. He first performed on radio in the late 1950s on a Sunday talent contest called "Aficionados de los Ejidos" on XEDN radio station in Torreïÿý"n, Coahuila. He has sung on more than 90 albums and acted in almost 50 films and continues singing enthusiastically after five decades. His youngest son Ricardo de Monteclaro is a drummer who performs in Lorenzo's band.
Lorenzo's first movie exposure was in ranchera films in the 1960s, including the 1965 hit Tierra Sangrienta. Lorenzo's light tenor is considered one of the best voices in norteïÿý=B1o and conjunto music. He is most known for his signature song "El Ausente." He continues to write and record new music today.
Maribel Guardia is a Costa Rican actress and singer who has lived in Mexico since 1980. She was named Miss Costa Rica in 1978 and has competed in the Miss Universe pageant. In 1980, she appeared in her first television show, alongside Manuel "El Loco" Valdïÿýs.
Maribel has starred in multiple novellas (soap operas) and has released a series of Nortena music albums. She has worked with some of the most famous actors in Mexico, including Andrïÿýs Garcïÿý - a, Saul Lisazo and Joan Sebastian. Recently she has done novelas made for children. She also starred in a 2006 comedy called Que Madre Tan Padre. Her variety show Muïÿývete became extremely popular in Mexico. Maribel currently performs in Que-Rico-Mambo, a show touring throughout Mexico.
In 2008, she released a new album with the hit single "De Pecho A Pecho" (From Chest To Chest) written by the Nicaraguan composer, songwriter and singer Hernaldo Zïÿý=BAïÿý=B1iga. Apart from her jobs as an actress and singer, she has also modeled for various calendars and magazines. Maribel recently starred in Corona de Lagrimas in Mexico.
