Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. -The Ports invite youth players from the Stockton community and San Joaquin County to come to Banner Island Ballpark for a pre-game Youth Baseball/Softball Clinic on June 28 and for the Youth Baseball Camp from June 29-30.

"We're very excited to be hosting these two immensely popular youth baseball events again this season," said Community Relations Manager Danielle Alt. "The grins and the excitement on the kids' faces say it all--baseball is fun! We hope every child who is interested in learning to play the game makes it to the ballpark to learn from our players and coaches."

At the Clinic, young fans can come early to Banner Island Ballpark on Sunday, June 28 and get great playing tips from players and coaches. June 28 is also Little League Night at the ballpark. Fans are encouraged to attend the Clinic, which is tentatively scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and then enjoy watching the Ports take on the Lancaster JetHawks, the Ports' opponent from the 2008 Championship series, at 6:05 p.m.

The Youth Baseball/Softball Clinic is free with a paid ticket to the Ports game on June 28, and youngsters can pick up playing tips and improve their playing skills in small groups instructed by Ports players. Former Port and current Oakland A's pitcher Dallas Braden will be at the game, and he will be signing autographs for free.

Little Leagues who register for June 28 can also participate in on-field parade prior to the game, and all kids can run the bases after the game.

For fans who would like to spend more time learning about baseball than in the one-hour clinic, the Ports offer Youth Baseball Camp. The Youth Baseball Camp runs from Monday, June 29 to Tuesday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Boys and girls aged 6-12 are eligible to participate in the camp, and will learn the fundamentals of baseball from Ports players and coaches.

Lunch is included each day, and each camper will receive an official Camp T-shirt. Campers will also receive two tickets to the June 30th Ports game and will be recognized on the field prior to the June 30th Ports game, which starts at 7:05 p.m., as well. The Camp costs just $90, and the deadline to register is Monday, June 22.

All of the funds raised from the Youth Baseball Camp benefits the Stockton Ports Anchor Fund, their community fund. The Anchor Fund aids several community projects, with a focus on youth centers and youth sports. In 2008, the Fund donated approximately $16,000 and nearly $43,500 of in-kind donations, including 8,600 tickets to local non-profit organizations, charities and schools.

Fans can sign up for both youth baseball events by visiting the official Ports website, www.stocktonports.com or by picking up the forms at the Ports front office at Banner Island Ballpark. For more information, please call the Ports at (209) 644-1900.
