Stockton Ports News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - The Stockton Ports, after a disappointing first half of the 2016 season, closed out the first half with back-to-back four-game series victories. Stockton scored 10 runs on 14 hits on Sunday on their way to a 10-1 victory over the High Desert Mavericks, who found out prior to the game that they'd won the First Half title in the South Division after the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes lost earlier to the San Jose Giants.

Stockton opened the scoring early with four straight hits off Mavericks starter David Ledbetter (2-6), with a run scoring on an RBI single by B.J. Boyd.

High Desert's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the second, a game-tying solo home run off the bat of Jose Trevino to knot the score at 1-1. It was the only run allowed by Ports starter Heath Fillmyer (4-4), who pitched around seven hits allowed and a season-high four walks issued. Fillmyer earned the win, going six innings and allowing the lone run while striking out five.

The Ports took the lead for good in the fourth. Sandber Pimentel doubled with one out and Joe Bennie hit a two-run homer to center to give Stockton a 3-1 lead. The Ports knocked Ledbetter from the game in the fifth. With two on and two out, James Harris hit a two-run single to left to make it 5-1 and chase the Mavs starter from the contest.

Ledbetter suffered the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits over four-and-two-thirds innings.

Stockton's biggest inning of the night came in eh seventh. With Josh Blanco on the mound and one out, Seth Brown walked and stole second. Richie Martin followed with a single to right that put runners at the corners and Boyd drove in the sixth Ports run with a single to right to make it a 6-1 lead. After back-to-back walks issued by Blanco, he was lifted for Ryan Ledbetter who gave up a two-out, two-run single to Mikey White to make it a 9-1 score.

Blanco allowed four runs on two hits and three walks in a third of an inning. Ledbetter pitched the eighth and gave up a leadoff double to Brown, who scored two batters later when Boyd hit into a double-play to make it 10-1.

Casey Meisner and Lou Trivino combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief for Stockton with Meisner pitching the seventh and eighth. Trivino set the side down in order in the ninth to close out the contest. Martin went 4-for-5 and notched his first four-hit performance of the season.

After winning seven of their final 10 games to close out the first half, the Ports open the second half with a four-game homestand at Banner Island Ballpark where they'll host the San Jose Giants following the All-Star break on Thursday. First pitch of Thursday's contest is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
