Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Stockton Ports jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back en route to posting a 13-6 victory over the JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium Saturday. The JetHawks will look to avoid a series sweep in the finale of the four-game set Sunday. The Ports scored twice in the second when Lancaster starter Ross Seaton uncorked a wild pitch. Tyler Ladendorf raced home from third base and an errant throw from catcher John Curtis enabled David Thomas to score on the play.
Stockton seized control of the contest an inning later by scoring five runs on four hits. Ryan Ortiz belted a three-run home run off Seaton to cap the big inning and give the Ports a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Trailing 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the JetHawks managed to cut into the deficit. With Curtis at first and two outs, Jay Austin hit an RBI triple to right field. Albert Cartwright followed with an RBI single and stole second base. Brandon Barnes drove in Cartwright with an RBI single, which made it an 8-3 contest.
The JetHawks reduced the deficit to 8-4 on Brandon Wikoff's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. But the Ports scored five runs in the final three innings to seal the 13-6 triumph.
Kenny Smalley (3-5) picked up the win for Stockton and Seaton (3-9) was charged with the loss. With the win, Stockton improved to 3-0 in the second half and 34-39 overall. Lancaster fell to 0-3 and 23-50 overall.
The JetHawks and Ports will meet in the finale of the four-game series Sunday. Lancaster will start lefty Dallas Keuchel (3-5, 3.75 ERA). Stockton is expected to counter with RHP Shawn Haviland (6-3, 4.07 ERA).
