Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

- The Portland Winterhawks earned back-to-back shutouts over the weekend with a 3-0 win in Spokane Friday followed by a 7-0 win in Tri-Cities Saturday. It marked the first time since Jan. 20-23, 1993 that the Hawks blanked opponents in two consecutive games. The team now has nine shutouts this season (Mac Carruth with five, Brendan Burke with three and former netminder Cam Lanigan with one), a new single season franchise record.

In addition, Carruth's shutout Friday was the ninth of his career, setting a new team record. In addition, with five this season, he's tied the franchise's single season mark, which he shares with Lanny Ramage, who had five in 2000-01.

- Team captain Troy Rutkowski set a franchise record by playing in his 327th career game Friday in Spokane, and is also closing in on the team's ironman record. He's played in 217 consecutive games, four shy of Andrew Ference's team record of 221, set from Feb. 18/95 - Oct. 11/98. Barring any injuries, Rutkowski will tie the record in Saturday's game against Spokane.

The last game Rutkowski missed was Jan. 20, 2010, and that was in order to attend the CHL Top Prospects Game. He has 48 points on the season, a new career-high, and good for second among all WHL defensemen this season.

- Oliver Bjorkstrand recorded his first career hat trick in the Hawks' 7-0 win in Tri-Cities Saturday. Bjorkstrand leads all WHL rookies in goals (20) and points (40).

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

- The Winterhawks' Feb. 2 game will be a fundraiser for Wesley Aylward, a 20-year-old autistic student who volunteers with the team on game nights. Wes is part of the Beaverton School District's Community Transition Program, which assists 18-21 year old special education students in need of comprehensive transition services to develop independence and contribute to their communities. Fans can go to winterhawks.com/ctp and purchase tickets to the game, with $5 from each ticket being donated to the Beaverton CTP in Wes's name.
